Abstract
To realize practical quantum computation, its computing system must be scalable, i.e., capable of executing quantum programs with computational advantage over recent high-performance computers while incorporating quantum error correction. So far, many types of "scalability" have been explored, such as error-correction schemes with modest growth in qubit count and logical-operation costs, and device designs enabling integration up to target scale without compromising coherence.
In this talk, I will highlight another essential aspect of scalability: how we can develop fault-tolerant quantum computers as loosely coupled systems in a reliable manner. This talk will explain why this property is essential for scalable development and demonstrate that the principles and ideas of modern computer engineering significantly contribute to this direction by presenting our recent results on reliability and portability.
