Abstract
Research around magnetic Skyrmions has made tremendous leaps since their discovery in 2009. Driven by their applications in spintronics, experiments have shown their existence and manipulation in various materials. Particularly in frustrated magnets, Skyrmions can reach diameters of only a few lattices sizes, which has motivated a theoretical investigation of their quantum mechanical properties. This led to the novel proposal of Skyrmion qubits. In my talk, we will discuss the properties of such a qubit on a Hamiltonian level. We will cover fundamental features such as anharmonicity and coupling that are defining when thinking about their possible implementation. To go further, we discuss geometric and holonomic gates as a possible operation scheme and what requirements this imposes on the Skyrmion. We will find many analogies to existing qubit types such as the transmon or the flux qubit, making for compelling comparisons and discussion.
