Abstract
Efficient, on-chip, passive, single-photon circulators and isolators are currently highly sought for quantum computing, photon routing, and efficient communication between distant qubits. In this talk, I would like to discuss the underlying mechanisms that achieve these effects in superconducting circuits and microwave photons, emphasizing giant atoms as a platform for non-reciprocal photon scattering. I'll present a series of recent theoretical and experimental proposals where giant atoms act as highly efficient isolators on microwave strip lines and other architectures that can effectively achieve circulation.
