Abstract
Non-Hermitian structures attract nowadays the more-increasing attention of mathematicians and nature scientists. This is mostly because practically all real physical objects are connected to the environment and do not conserve energy. By now, the best studied are homogeneous non-Hermitian media, while the effects of irregularities are much less understood. Meanwhile, scattering on fluctuations that are ubiquitous in any natural media or tailor-made structures may have a pronounced, sometimes determining, impact on the propagation of quantum particles and classical waves. Presented in this talk is a review of the recent state of art in studies of the quasi-normal states (QNSs) in non-Hermitian open disordered systems, and of the role they play in the quantum and classical transport. The connection between QNSs and diffusive transmission channels, as well as the algorithms of the coherent control of wave processes in scattering media are discussed.
