講演概要
Topology provides a powerful framework for understanding how the properties of a material's bulk can give rise to robust states localized at its boundaries. The interplay between topology and symmetry has led to the discovery of a wide range of unconventional phases, while periodic driving, known as Floquet engineering, offers additional opportunities to engineer phases with no static counterparts. In this talk, I will discuss how lattice symmetries can give rise to synthetic degrees of freedom known as pseudospin, allowing systems to exhibit behavior analogous to electronic topological insulators. In one-dimensional systems, I will show how periodic driving can introduce new space-time symmetries that act as pseudo-fermionic time-reversal symmetries and enable dynamic manipulation of pseudospin. I will then discuss the realization of these ideas using photonic waveguides, including the possibility of generating entangled photon pairs through nonlinear effects in silicon. Finally, I will explore how periodic modulation can be used to generate and control distinct topological phases in two-dimensional lattices.
