講演概要
Quantum computers are beginning to explore problems once beyond their reach, including the dynamics of lattice gauge theories, which describe fundamental interactions across high-energy and condensed matter physics. Recent advances in quantum hardware allow for quantum simulations beyond one dimension into 2D, opening pathways for quantum computers to contribute to this rich area of physics.
In this talk, I will highlight several experimental milestones that showcase the diversity of phenomena accessible through quantum simulation of lattice gauge theories. These include string breaking in high-energy physics, where a flux tube decays into a particle–antiparticle pair; prethermal dynamics in disordered quantum systems, relevant to many-body localization; and the first realization of non-equilibrium topological order.
Finally, I will introduce QuEra Computing’s neutral atom digital quantum computer, recently installed at Japan’s AIST. With its high connectivity and parallelism from optical tweezer arrays, this system is uniquely poised to push lattice gauge theory studies into new regimes while also enabling advances in quantum error correction and beyond.
