講演概要
In this talk, I will present our recent results on the feasibility of implementing two alternative distance-3 quantum error-correcting codes (QECC) on a spin quantum computer: the surface code (surface-17) and the Bacon-Shor code (BS-17). For both codes, we compare their performance with two different qubit encoding schemes: one in which all qubits are Zeeman-type and another one where data qubits are Zeeman-type and ancillary qubits are singlet-triplet (ST). We perform stabilizer simulations with a realistic and physically motivated noise model based on the state-of-the-art spin qubit technology.
We find that, for both codes, the hybrid-qubit scheme exhibits a performance that is about 1 order of magnitude better than the all-Zeeman-qubit scheme. Secondly, even though the performance of the error correction cycle is slightly better for the surface-17 code, the logical state preparation failure rate is 2 orders of magnitude lower for the BS-17 than for the surface-17 code. This can be achieved while maintaining a connectivity of at most 4 for each quantum dot.
This work shows that the combination of a hybrid-qubit scheme and the Bacon-Shor code is a promising candidate for the demonstration of a distance-3 FT QECC on a spin quantum computer, without requiring the full qubit connectivity found in other systems, like trapped ions. This proposal might also pave the way for the implementation of higher-distance codes, which will be needed to build a logical qubit that outlives its physical qubit constituents.
