Abstract
In this talk, we will discuss intriguing dynamical behavior of dissipative systems near so-called exceptional points (EPs). EPs are exotic spectral degeneracies where both system’s eigenvectors and eigenvalues coalesce. The presence of such points in the spectrum of non-Hermitian systems can lead to novel and sometimes even counterintuitive effects, e.g., a loss-induced transmission, thus, enriching and extending our knowledge beyond the Hermitian formalism. A special focus will be made on how one can engineer non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with EPs and practically realize them in the state-of-art experimental setups. We will also briefly talk about how the presence of exotic spectral singularities in the low-dimensional systems allows to simulate lattice non-Hermitian phenomena, e.g., a non-Hermitian skin effect, in the synthetic space of such systems.
